Root Towers

Saint Louis Science Center | St. Louis, MO

This outdoor exhibit shows how roots’ “hidden powers” help life on Earth thrive. Visitors crawl through tunnels to observe growing roots, see microscopic imagery, and discover cutting edge research in root biology. Angela developed this exhibit alongside many scientists and artists.

Services provided:

  • Exhibit Development

    Angela worked with the exhibits team at the Science Center to develop themes, stories, design concepts, and a system of engagement for visitors.

  • Audience Evaluation

    Draft designs, text, and fabricated structures were tested with Science Center visitors to make sure the messages were getting across.

  • Research & Content Development

    Resources for accurate illustration, text, and design included scientist interviews, journal articles, and middle-school textbooks.

  • Custom Illustration

    Angela illustrated microscopic phenomena to be incorporated into the exhibit graphics.

  • Interpretive Writing

    Complicated subject matter was interpreted through a structured label system, including playful rhyming poems about root functions.
